IMES scholars argue against the Cumbria coal mine

Valentin Vogl, Max Åhman and Lars J Nilsson, together with ten colleagues from the UK and other countries, have written a letter to the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressing their concerns with the Cumbria coal mine project. The key arguments are that a new coal mine is not compatible with UK’s legal obligations on climate change, and that coal from the mine is not needed for steelmaking, and will hinder efforts to decarbonise the steel industry. There letter has also received coverage in the Telegraph.

Complementing this work, Valentin Vogl has also published an op-ed in Green Alliance blog
